Crater of Diamonds State Park
A 37-acre plowed field sitting on the eroded throat of a lamproite volcanic pipe - the only diamond-bearing ground on Earth where the public digs and keeps what it finds. Diamonds come out in three colors here (white, brown and yellow), but most visitors go home with amethyst, jasper, agate, quartz and garnet instead. Park staff identify anything you bring to the counter at no charge, so pocket the odd ones.
